About Your Speaker:

Shamini Dias
Education expert and teaching artist with over 30 years of experience and research in the field.
Shamini Dias is a teaching artist and educator. She has worked with learners of all ages from early childhood, through K-12, college, as well as with communities, working adults and parents. Her work is based on holistic, arts- and play-based learning that is part of her research and practice in integrating play and imagination as the creative and life-sustaining center of educational practice. Shamini has innovated teaching strategies for creative play as a teaching strategy, and especially the importance of helping children nurture their natural joy in learning as a discovery and self-actualization process for life
Shamini was the Director of Written Language Arts at the Julia Gabriel Center in Singapore, from 1996 through 2001, where she developed a transdisciplinary integration of the written language arts with process drama. She also worked as a teaching artist with public and private schools, drama-in-education programs, with the Open University, U.K., as well as the Ministry of Education, Singapore as a Junior College instructor, Gifted Education Creative Arts Program, and with Teacher Education. She was part of Mime Unlimited, a Singaporean theatre group as performer, arts-education developer, and dramaturg. She founded the Preparing Future Faculty program at Claremont Graduate University and is currently the Director of Transdisciplinary Curriculum and Special Projects with the Transdisciplinary Studies department at Claremont Graduate University.
